| Hotel Emergency Preparedness:
Dear Guest,
The Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area is in a TORNADO ZONE which means that
Tornadoes and other associated severe weather conditions such as heavy
rain, flash flooding, hail, and lightning can hit with little warning.
The Staff of this facility in conjunction with the Linn County Emergency
Management Agency is offering the following basic information for your
knowledge should a tornado or severe weather warning actually occur during
your stay.
Cedar Rapids, Marion, and Hiawatha are in LINN COUNTY, and the following
counties border Linn County. National Weather Service Warning Announcements
are generally given by county description.
Benton -West
Tama - WestBenton
Buchanan - North
Jones - East
Iowa - West
Blackhawk - Northwest
Delaware - Northeast
Cedar - East
Johnson - South
Poweshiek - Southwest
A TORNADO WATCH is when conditions are right for a possible tornado or
severe storm. A WATCH is given for a wide area and usually for several
hours.
A TORNADO WARNING is when a tornado has been detected on radar or actually
observed by a trained weather spotter.
If a TORNADO WARNING is declared for LINN COUNTY, the staff will notify
you of the warning and the time it is expected to expire. Guests should
stay away from windows and be aware that an interior lower level meeting
room or lower level interior hallway is available for your use if you
so desire. Please come to the front desk for directions.
Further developments regarding a storm may be obtained from any local
television station’s weather advisory on Channels #2 KGAN (CBS),
#7 KWWL (NBC), #9 KCRG (ABC), or the Weather Channel. On radio listen
to WMT 600 AM or 96.5 FM for Emergency Alert (EAS) broadcasts. Linn County
is in the Quad-Cities National Weather Service District based in Davenport,
Iowa.
